The Digital Content Writer contributes to the Senate of Canada’s digital strategy as a member of the Communications Directorate. In addition to writing, the incumbent provides advice for strategic content, plans and products across all communications platforms. The incumbent develops strong working relationships with senators’ offices, committees and key stakeholders with the goal of producing engaging digital content which informs Canadians about the important work of the Senate and senators.
The general public to staff one (1) permanent (full-time) position in the Communications Directorate.This selection process may be used to staff determinate or indeterminate positions at the same level with similar requirements.Candidates must provide work samples in the form of a portfolio or other and a one-page cover letter clearly indicating how education and experience qualifications are met.
• Bachelor degree in communications, journalism or related field of study;• Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a writer;• Experience with storytelling techniques on multiple and emerging platforms;• Experience working in a deadline-driven environment;• Experience developing content for infographics, multimedia products, video capsules, and social media platforms;• Extensive knowledge of the theories, principles, methods and industry best practices associated with writing and editing branded content;• Knowledge of how to write for different targeted audiences and platforms (web, opinion pieces, video capsules, social media);• Knowledge of Parliament and the Canadian political landscape; • Knowledge of the Canadian media landscape;• Experience using multimedia software considered an asset (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.);• Knowledge of using email newsletter software systems such as Campaigner considered an asset;• Knowledge of uploading content to a website using a content management system such as Umbraco considered an asset.
