The Graphic Designer, Internal Communications, is responsible for digital and creative design in support of internal communications function. The incumbent collaborates with Senate clients in creating design solutions that have a high visual impact and respond to clients’ expectations. The role requires consulting with clients, understanding their needs, and proposing creative ideas to assist the client in making design decisions.The position is also responsible for design and update requirements for the Senate’s Intranet and creating design solutions that meet industry standards for user-experience. The role involves liaising regularly with the Senate Information Services Directorate (ISD) to ensure technical requirements are met.
The general public to staff one (1) permanent position in the Communications Directorate.This selection process may be used to staff determinate or indeterminate positions at the same level with similar requirements.Candidates must provide work samples in the form of a portfolio or other and a one-page cover letter clearly indicating how education and experience qualifications are met.
• College diploma or university degree in Graphic Design or related field of study;• Minimum of five (5) years experience managing graphic design projects across their life cycle, from project acceptance through to approval;• Experience providing advice, recommendations and concept development to clients on effective, impactful creative communications solutions (digital and print) that adhere to brand and templates standards and clear print guidelines;• Experience developing interactive digital publications that include many photos, charts, graphics and embedded videos;• Experience creating on-trend graphics (e.g. presentations, infographics, social media graphics);• Experience working in an Apple computer environment and using Adobe Cloud software (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat DC);• Knowledge of Parliament and the Canadian political landscape;• Knowledge of video production, an asset;• Experience using a website content managing system (e.g. Umbraco), an asset;• Knowledge of accessible graphic design standards, an asset;• Knowledge of the WCAG standards on accessibility and other web design guidelines, an asset.
