About the Canadian Senators Group (CSG)

The CSG is comprised of Senators across the political spectrum in support of the interests of Canada’s regions, and to see the Senate return to its roots: research-based, long-term analysis of public policy matters. To this extent, CSG members aim to be the best briefed parliamentarians in the Senate.

The CSG membership’s collective goals include the maintenance of an atmosphere of collegiality, respect and efficiency. CSG members intend to arrive at their respective positions on policy and legislation through rigorous research, aided by a strong, centrally funded CSG Research Bureau. CSG members are not bound together by a common political outlook, but rather united in their approach to their work as Senators.

How will you contribute?

Working under the direction of the CSG Leadership and in collaboration with other team members, the Chamber Logistics Advisor is responsible for preparing accurate and timely chamber coordination tools and ensuring materials are precise, reliable and without error. Specific duties include:
• Provides advice on the rules and procedures of the Senate and advises senators on pertinent strategic questions;
• Liaises and collaborates with senators’ offices to collect, organize and distribute information pertinent to work in the Chamber;
• Archives information and documents related to Chamber activities;
• Keeps abreast of Senate votes and proceedings as well as politically sensitive issues to brief the senators and staff;
• Develops and maintains communications and logistical tools.

Open to

The general public to staff one (1) determinate (full-time) position.

Prerequisites

• Successful completion of a university degree in a field related to the position and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience;
• Experience in providing advice and recommendations to coworkers and high-level stakeholders on urgent and sensitive issues;
• Experience coordinating logistics, scheduling meetings and managing the overall functioning of an office;
• Knowledge of information management, general administrative methods, techniques and practices to coordinate activities and provide logistical support;
• The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in both official languages (English and French);
• The ability to adapt to unforeseen and shifting circumstances and remain objective under pressure or in stressful situations;
• Comprehensive knowledge of theories, principles, practices, policies and guidelines or the logistics of the Senate Chamber;
• Knowledge of and/or experience working in a legislative and parliamentary environment would be a strong asset.

The successful candidate will be required to work irregular and/or extended hours when the Senate is sitting.
