The Internal Communications Advisor is responsible for directing the delivery of a wide range of strategic advice and services to the various directorates of the Senate Administration. Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Advisor takes requests from various directorates, assesses them, develops plans, negotiates deliverables and timelines and oversees the execution of various projects from beginning to end.The position leads research and analyses communications needs, media coverage, public environment and their implications in order to formulate and propose strategic internal communications plans and objectives, innovative products and key messages. This requires managing multiple and concurrent projects.The position also prepares internal communications material for senior management approval. This also involves advising them on employees’ consultations and engagement strategies on various internal initiatives, as well as identifies the possible internal/external impact and communications implications. These activities require prudence and probity as they have an impact on the image of the Senate.
The general public to staff one (1) indeterminate position in the Communications directorate. This selection process may be used to staff determinate OR indeterminate positions at the same level with similar requirements.
• A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field of study;• Minimum of 8 years of experience in the communications field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in project management;• Experience in the areas of creative services, content development, stakeholder engagement, and organization of events;• Experience delivering presentations to senior managers;• Extensive knowledge of communications theories, principles, methods and industry best practices pertaining to communications and journalism;• Specialized expertise in writing for various targeted audiences and different platforms (web, reports, op-ed, news releases, speaking points);• Knowledge of Parliament and the Canadian political landscape;• Knowledge of employee engagement, change management and capacity building best practices;• Experience with social media platforms on behalf of an organization, association or institution is an asset.
