How will you contribute?

This exciting opportunity gives you the chance to lead a variety of editing and publications activities fundamental to the Senate’s legislative business. In this role, you will oversee the Debates and Publications team which helps showcase the work of senators by creating high-quality, comprehensive content derived from live Senate and committee proceedings. In this role you will:

- Serve as Editor in Chief to ensure the integrity of Senate publications by upholding editorial standards and decisions based on Parliamentary authorities;
- Organize, plan and manage the operations of the Debates and Publications team;
- Forecast and establish the human and financial resources for the team;
- Represent Debates and Publications on a variety of working groups and cross-functional projects;
- Advise senators and senior officials on Debates and Publications operations;
- Coordinate, edit and oversee the computer-assisted real-time translation (CART) and closed captioning reporting services for the hearing impaired;
- Motivate and lead a team in a dynamic, quality and deadline driven publications environment.

Open to

The general public to staff one (1) permanent position in Debates and Publications in the Legislative Sector. This selection process may be used to staff other similar positions in the future.


• Successfully completed a university degree or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience;
• Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience working on the editing and/or production of either parliamentary or judicial proceedings;
• Experience supervising staff or leading teams including managing schedules, workloads and establishing deadlines;
• Experience in providing strategic advice to stakeholders on editorial choices and standards;
• Experience with the technology, including software, used to edit, proofread, transcribe and publish content with short deadlines;
• Experience leading or serving a significant role on projects involving cross-functional teams;
• Experience in managing budgets;
• Knowledge of the parliamentary environment including its practices and the legislative process would be considered an asset.
