Join a vibrant team of professionals that records history as it happens and preserves the rich legacy of parliamentary debates in Canada.As the Assistant Manager and Editor of Debates (English), you will assist the Manager and Editor in Chief in producing the daily edition of the Debates of the Senate (English), also known as Hansard, and editing committee transcripts, as required.You will be foundational to the functioning of the broader Debates and Publications team. In this role, you will manage staff training, consult on the team’s learning plan, manage assets, maintain the Debates Services Form and Style Book and participate in ongoing administrative functions such as the preparation of the annual budget and day-to-day management. The Assistant Manager and Editor of Debates (English) assumes the duties of the Manager and Editor in Chief when the incumbent is absent.

• Post-secondary education or an acceptable combination of education, knowledge and experience related to the position (an acceptable combination of education, knowledge and experience would be a high school diploma with a minimum of 5 years of experience pertaining to editing and high volume text production, workflow management and performance management);• Experience in the preparation, editing and production of parliamentary documents (such as Hansard) or other related documents;• Experience in conducting research and analyzing information;• Superior knowledge of editing rules and English grammar;• Experience in evaluating and resolving administrative problems and formulating recommendations;• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in both official languages;• Experience in preparing reports using the MS Office suite of tools;• Experience in evaluating and resolving administrative problems and formulating recommendations;• Awareness of current events;• Management and professional development skills;• Superior knowledge of parliamentary practices and procedures;• Knowledge of the organization of the Senate and the Rules of the Senate (asset);• Knowledge of machine shorthand language (asset);• Knowledge of the software used in the production of transcripts and providing CART and closed captioning services (asset).
